Denver, Colorado

Last week I traveled to the other side of the country. I had the opportunity to represent the university that I work for at an education conference that was held in downtown Denver, CO. I am an instructional designer for Liberty University. That basically means I get to help develop and create the online courses for the brand new degree programs at the university. My buddy Alex and I submitted a proposal to this conference and were chosen back in the spring to host a session and discuss some of our processes that we use on a daily basis.

The days leading up to the trip were filled with plenty of presentation prep, but we also mapped out a few nearby spots we knew we had to hit up while we were in the city. We had been told that Denver had great coffee, and we were not disappointed. If we are being completely honest, most of our time and dining options were strategically planned out based on proximity to the coffee shops we wanted to visit.

The weather kept us from trekking too far out on our own, but with the help of Uber we were able to visit Steam Espresso Bar. I found out about Steam through Abbey and the buzzfeed list of coffee shops to visit before you die. We had a great experience there. The coffee shop was packed out and we ended up sitting outside under and umbrella while it was pouring the rain. However, a little rain could not stop me from enjoying the best Americano I have ever had. Alex, sipped on a Cortado and we had a nice conversation with guy who was also taking refuge under one of the patio umbrellas. He too found out about Steam through buzzfeed, even though he is a Denver local. Eventually, a table opened up and we were able to enjoy more conversation inside.

The second evening we were in town, my good friend Erin drove from Colorado Springs to have dinner with us. I met Erin, along with several other of our close friends, during college in painting class. She recommended and took us to a restaurant called Work & Class. It was a family style restaurant and we dined on Jamaican jerk chicken, pulled pork, chipotle mac and cheese, and sweet potato fries.

Denver is a vibrant city with an energy that is contagious and full of interesting and wonderful people. Below are a few iPhone shots from our visit. Our time in Denver was far too short and I am already figuring out how to make it back out there as soon as possible!

If you live in Denver, or have ever visited, what do you like most about the city? What should be on my agenda for my next visit to this incredible city?
